Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League newcomers Northern United have qualified for the grand final in their first season in the NRRRL.

Lismore-based Northern United, who were admitted to the competition this year after several unsuccessful attempts, beat Mullumbimby 22-14 at Mullumbimby in today’s preliminary final.

Northern United now will play minor premiers Lower Clarence in the grand final at Maclean on Sunday, September 20.

In another boost for the NRRRL, Evans Head will contest the reserve grade grand final, taking on Mullumbimby after today beating Ballina 44-12 in the preliminary final.

Evans Head contested reserve grade last year, making the finals, which laid the foundation for the inclusion this year of a first-grade side.

In the Under-18 grand final, Kyogle will play Ballina, who today beat Northern United 20-10 in the preliminary final.
