Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says bream have been pretty fair along the Town Reach and are starting to head up-river a little.

A few blackfish getting about but no weed available, so find your own if you’re able to and reap the rewards.

Mud crabs still in North Creek but heading upstream.

Main shakers and movers are the tailor to a couple of kilos around the headlands and walls and a good run of jew around the headlands and walls on hardbodies and soft plastics. Also a few jew behind the CBD at night on live baits.

Boats are only just starting to get offshore more regularly, with some snapper in close on plastics and more reds and pearlies on the wider grounds.

At Evans Head the snapper and trag have been biting fairly well up to the full moon on Thursday but if the weather lays off the best catches this weekend should be in the evenings.

A few jew also turning up around the inshore reefs and gutters.

The beaches are starting to work up some better formations but the tides this weekend aren’t so conducive to good catches, although there have been some bream, flathead and the odd tailor and school jew around Broadwater Beach.

Headlands hold a few tailor, bream and jew.

The river has ample supplies of small flathead along with patches of decent bream and some whiting in the shallows.
