Former Kyogle juniors Will Matthews and Shannon Walker have been named in the Gold Coast Titans side to play Sydney City Roosters at the Sydney Football Stadium on Friday night.

Walker was given game time off the bench in the match against Canterbury earlier this season, and Matthews made his debut two weeks ago, but it will be the first time they have played in the first grade team together.

Matthews has been named in the run-on side in the second row, and Walker will start off the bench.

Local fans will be able to watch how the boys go, courtesy of Channel Nine’s coverage from 7.30pm.

An increasing injury toll has given both players their chance in the top grade.

The Titans have lost captain and halfback Scott Prince, star forward Luke Bailey, along with forward Mark Minichiello, among others, in the past few weeks.

Winger Brenton Bowen is out for six weeks with a fractured cheekbone, so there is an opening there for Walker to get a permanent first-grade berth.

Former Ballina junior Ian Donnelly, who last season switched from the Melbourne Storm to the Titans, also could come into calculations for a Titans berth.

He played first grade last season but has been playing in Queensland Cup for most of this season.
