Andrew at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says there have been some nice snapper in close and a few on the 32-fathom reefs but the leatherjackets have turned up out there.
Out on the shelf for blue-eye cod.
Jew, flathead and tailor from the beaches with the occasional bream. The walls have nice size tailor and the occasional jew.
The river has flathead, a lot of smaller bream and some school jew from the mouth to the back of the RSL.
Not a lot of offshore traffic from Evans Head this week but a few got out today for snapper and some nice trag but those jackets are out wider here, too.
Pearlies still on out a little wider but you don’t have to go over the horizon for them at the moment, which is good.
Loads of whales and a faint trickle of current to the south.
The beaches have undersize soapy jew, salmon and flathead, while there’s a better class of school jew around the headlands, along with a few more tailor than salmon on lures and a few more salmon than tailor on bait.
The river has a few blackfish and some bream, along a stray whiting and the occasional flathead that isn’t 20cm long and spiky.
