Lennox Head surfer Adam Melling was in top form at the Drug Aware Pro event at Margaret River today.
In solid 2m surf, Melling advanced through his round two heat, defeating Brazilian surfers Leonardo Bastos and Messais Felix.
In tomorrow’s round three heat Melling faces highly rated USA surfer Chris Ward.
Melling is surfing in top ‘company’ — the Drug Aware Pro Margaret River presented by O’Neill Australia is a six-star prime rated ASP World Qualifying Series event for Men and 5-star Women’s event and includes most of the world’s top 200 touring professional surfers.
Surfers from Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, Hawaii, USA, France, Spain, Portugal, Sth Africa, Brazil, Peru, USA, Pueto Rico, Japan, Canary Island, Mexico are competing for $US165,000 prize pool and vital ratings points.
The number one seeds are current ASP World Number 4 rated surfer Jeremy Flores in the Men’s and ASP World Number 3 Samantha Cornish in the Women’s.
Defending event champions are Kieren Perrow (Byron Bay) and Jacqueline Silva (Brazil).
